According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2018 is the Year of the Dog. So get ready – PetGuide celebrates all year long! But before we get the party started, let’s talk about what the Year of the Dog is all about.
What does the Year of the Dog really mean?
The Chinese zodiac is known for having 12 signs based on the yearly lunar calendar. All Chinese zodiac signs are animals and 2018 is the best one – the year of the dog! More specifically, since all years are based on one of the five elements (gold, wood, water, fire, and earth), this is the year of planet Earth.
Earth dog years are special. It only comes around once every 60 years, and the last one was from February 18, 1958 to February 7, 1959. The Chinese zodiac is based on the lunar calendar, not the Gregorian calendar, so the dates are not from January 1 to December 31 like the traditional Western calendar. This also means that the Year of the Dog will officially begin on February 16, 2018, and will last until February 4, 2019. It also means that the next Year of the Dog for Earth will be 2078.

What will people born in this year be like?
Well, since dogs are the most loyal, kind, and friendly creatures, it makes sense that people born in this year would have the same traits. People born in this year are not interested in things like power and money, but are more intent, like dogs, to make the world better for everyone. People born in the year of the Dog can be known to be stubborn and critical, though, but like dogs, if they have a nice, quiet life with the people they love, they will be able to get that happy-go-lucky attitude quite lovingly. According to the Zodiac, the different traits of a dog’s person will be based on the lunar month of the year they were born, and they can vary, just like dog breeds.

There are some talented people in the world! Some of them include Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince. Other famous celebrities who are also dog people, though not Earth people, include Mother Teresa, Bill Clinton, Elvis Presley, and Donald Trump.

People born in the year of the Dog have some special numbers. The lucky ones are three, four and nine, and their unlucky numbers are one, six and seven. When it comes to special times and dates, those born between 9 am and 1 pm are most likely to be successful, as are those born between 3 pm. and 5 p.m. Lucky people born on the 1st, 6th, 7th, 17th, 21st, 24th, 26th, 28th or 30th of the month are believed to be the luckiest.
They also have colors they are attracted to – red, green and purple. Blue, white, and gold are not considered lucky colors for the general dog population, and they should stay away from clothing or furniture in those colors.
When it comes to romance, people born in the year of the Dog are believed to be compatible with people born in the years of the Rabbit. However, they should stay away from “intermarrying” with people born in the year of the Dragon, Goat or Rooster.

Predictions for 2018
So, while the Year of the Dog is obviously fantabulous… expectations for the year 2018 of the Dog people aren’t very great. According to Chinese astrologers, bad luck is expected for those who are in the years that is also their birth sign. Because of the not-so-great predictions, astrologers and zodiac enthusiasts suggest that for those whose Year of the Dog it is, it is best to keep a low profile and remain as calm as possible so that this year can be as pleasant as possible.
In addition, it is good for people to work on industrial projects and energy developments, but this is not the best year for an ambitious individual, as it will most likely not be successful. For families, relationships will be important to work on and cultivate.
Those looking to make changes in their lifestyles (smoking, being vegan, working out, etc.) will likely be successful, but…may not without some distress or grief in the process. However, the Year of the Dog is expected to be one of hope and forgiveness.
