If you crave a curly coated canine companion, consider a poodle. Intelligent and playful, poodles make for an entertaining and fun family member. His coat comes in a wide range of colors, including white, cream, apricot, silver, blue, gray, black, brown, red and café au lait, and he’s available in three different sizes. With so many options, dogs can afford every home, family, and lifestyle.
Measuring standards
The Standard Poodle is the oldest and largest of the three sizes of poodles recognized by the American Kennel Club. It stands over 15 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 40 to 55 pounds. The Standard was developed in Germany as a base for waterfowl on hunting trips. The familiar poodle clip served the purposes of facilitating easy swimming and movement through the water while protecting dogs’ joints in frigid temperatures. Despite his breeding, the Standard Poodle is a member of the non-American Club group. A dog needs daily exercise. The Standard Poodle makes an excellent walking or hiking companion. Of the three sizes, the standard poodle tends to be more sociable with strangers than its shyer, smaller counterpart.
Mad about miniatures
The Miniature Terrier, which is also a member of the American Non-Sporting Dog group of dogs, measures between 10 and 15 inches at the shoulder and weighs between 12 to 15 pounds. The Standard Tipper Dog is thought to have been crossed with Havanese and Maltese puppies in order to develop smaller, genius little dogs. The miniature poodle breed also includes the truffle dog. The terriers were used as a truffle hunting dog in England, Spain, and Germany, and became popular companion dogs among French royalty. Miniature poodles are fine lap dogs for older members of the family and are better suited to playing with young children than the more gentle toy poodles. Miniature is the most popular shape of the three different sizes of poodles.
Small toys to play
The smallest dog is a member of the American Kennel Club’s toy group, standing just under 10 inches at the shoulder and weighing between 5 and 10 pounds. Toy poodles are bred by selecting for smaller miniatures, but the early ancestor of the toy poodle was the white Cuban Terrier, a small dog brought to Spain and England from the West Indies. The result of crossing a miniature dog and a white albino dog became an instant sensation in France, earning the dog the title of national dog. The poodle was a companion of the French nobility during the reign of Louis XIV, and its popularity continued into the reign of Louis XVI. Toy poodles also contributed to their exciting competitions in European circus rings during the 1700’s and 1800’s. The toy poodle is an excellent choice for playing along errands and weekend outings, and its size is perfectly adapted to apartment dwellings.
Turn away from the cup
Chocolate fruit teacup is not a strain. Pie is a small, genetically sized teacup poodle not recognized by the American Kennel Club. Reputable breeders avoid producing it. Breeders who choose to produce Teacup Boxers for their understated visual appeal, cross the smallest specimens of Toy Poodles in an effort to create a dog that weighs less than 5 pounds. While a teacup dog might look like a cute, pocket-sized teddy bear, families have to get around. The hoodie bun’s health is compromised because it was bred as a domestic animal, and its lifespan is much shorter than that of a standard, miniature, or toy dog. They are also very accurate. Falling from a chair to the ground, for one of these dogs, can result in serious injury. A teacup hoodie cake is a bad choice for kids, because a cup of tea that slips out of kids’ arms and falls to the floor can lead to heartbreaking results.

The first American Kennel Club recognized poodles in 1887. All poodles are active, intelligent, and easily trained, and they make outstanding candidates for obedience trials and agility courses. Poodles thrive on human companionship, get along well with children and most other pets, and their sense of humor will keep the whole family entertained.
